What is Dynamic Number Insertion (DNI) and why every Indian agency needs it

Dynamic Number Insertion is how marketers tie phone calls back to the exact ad that drove them. Here’s how it works, when to use it, and what to watch out for.

If you’re running Google Ads, Meta Ads, or any paid traffic for a service business in India, you already know that phone calls convert at 5-10x the rate of form fills. The problem? Most call leads are invisible to your analytics.

The attribution gap

Google Analytics ends at the click. Your CRM picks up at the form. Phone calls happen in between, and nobody owns them. That’s where Dynamic Number Insertion comes in.

How DNI works

You buy a pool of tracking numbers. Your website ships a tiny JavaScript snippet. When a visitor lands, the snippet looks at their UTM tags, gclid, or referrer, picks a number from the pool, and swaps it into the page. When that visitor calls, Callswala matches the inbound number back to the session and attributes the call to the original campaign.

When DNI pays for itself

  • You spend more than ₹50,000/month on paid traffic
  • More than 20% of your leads come via phone
  • You can’t currently tell which campaign drives qualified phone leads

If two of those are true, DNI pays for itself in the first month — usually by cutting spend on the campaigns that drive spam calls.
